The Woolley Memorial Postgraduate Research Scholarship is open to all interested and qualified students at the University of Sydney.

The fellowship grants financial assistance to students pursuing Classics and Ancient History studies.

This scholarship was created to help students who are studying the Classics, encompassing language, literature, history, and civilizations from ancient Greece and Rome between the ninth and eighth centuries BC and AD.

Subject to excellent academic achievement, the Scholarship will give a stipend allowance similar to the University of Sydney Research Training Program (RTP) Stipend rate for up to 3.5 years.

Woolley Memorial Postgraduate Research Scholarship | Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must satisfy the following criteria to be considered for the Woolley Memorial Postgraduate Research Scholarship:

  • Applicants must be enrolled, planning to apply, have applied for admission, and receive a conditional or unconditional offer of admission to study full-time in the School of Humanities’ PhD program in Classics and Ancient History.
  • Applicants to do study in the Classics from the eighth century BC to the eighth century AD, covering language, literature, history, and civilizations from ancient Greece and Rome.

How to Apply

 To be considered for the scholarship, candidates must complete an online application.

  • The Scholarship will be granted to the successful candidate based on the following criteria:
  • Academic merit – utilize ‘paste as text’ (clipboard with T) and leave a line gap between each paragraph, according to the Scholarships Office.
  • Study topic and/or research proposal
  • Curriculum vitae,
  • A personal statement describing the areas of Classics in which the candidate intends to or is presently conducting research.
