The University of Southern Denmark PhD Position in Artificial Enzymes is accepting applications for the academic year 2022/2023.

University of Southern Denmark PhD Position

Project details

The Wu group is focused on enzyme catalysis, which involves developing cutting-edge materials and compounds to increase biocatalyst performance.

To create industrially applicable biocatalysts for applications, the group draws on multidisciplinary knowledge in enzyme catalysis, chemistry, polymer science, engineering, and microbiology.

The Independent Research Fund Denmark (DFF) has financed this PhD study as part of the DFF Sapere Aude leader program.

The goal of the research is to combine enzymes/proteins with organocatalytic polymers to create artificial enzymes.

Polymer synthesis, molecular catalysis design, and protein modification are all areas of expertise for our group.

Our lab works closely with colleagues from the Danish Institute for Advanced Study, Biomolecular Nanoscale Engineering Center, and SDU Protein Production and Purification Platform on-site, as well as with German and Chinese polymer design and enzyme catalysis groups.

Worth of Award

  • The PhD Research Fellow position is for three years. At the conclusion of the time, employment is automatically terminated.
  • The selected candidate will be engaged in line with the Ministry of Finance and AC’s agreement on paid PhD researchers (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).
  • According to faculty norms and the Danish Ministerial Order on the PhD Program at Universities, the successful applicant will be enrolled at the institution (PhD order).

University of Southern Denmark PhD Position Requirements

The ideal candidate has the following competencies and skills:

  • With a solid foundation in organic synthesis or molecular catalysis design, a Master’s degree in organic chemistry, polymer chemistry, supramolecular chemistry, or similar areas is required.
  • Effective collaborating across disciplines requires good interpersonal and communication skills (English).

It’s preferable if you have experience in organocatalysis, organometallic catalysis, polymer catalysis, supramolecular catalysis, protein-polymer conjugation, or something similar.

Asymmetric catalysis for organic synthesis experience is extremely desirable.
