University of Melbourne PhD Scholarship and Fellowship | Details

The initiative’s goal is to achieve a breakthrough in responses to the rising threat of global companies to democracy, as well as to build a world-class research program and infrastructure on which a better relationship between states and global businesses may be built in the future.

During the early phases of the candidacy, the applicant will submit a relevant project-related subject and refine it in conjunction with their supervisors.

University of Melbourne PhD Scholarship and Fellowship | Eligibility Criteria

Applicants for the University of Melbourne Global Corporations and International Law PhD Scholarship must satisfy the following requirements:

  • Applicants must be qualified for admittance into a PhD program at the University of Melbourne, and the scholarship is contingent on acceptance. Because this Scholarship is hosted by the Melbourne Law School, the applicant must meet the Law School’s PhD program’s entry requirements as well as the ARC’s additional requirements for Laureate PhD candidates.
  • A prior law degree is required, however it is not required, depending on the application, project, and other criteria. By the start of the program, applicants must have earned a first- or upper-second-class undergraduate degree with equivalent evidence of excellent research abilities, or have an outstanding record of professional or research accomplishments following graduation.
  • Laureate PhDs must be enrolled full-time, hold a PhD in Law, and have not previously earned a PhD stipend from the Australian government, according to the ARC. If you’re not sure if you’re qualified, you can send the Stage 1 papers (excluding the study proposal) to Professor Pahuja for an indication of eligibility, or you can submit the Stage 1documents in full for potential shortlisting (recommended).

Scholarship Benefits

The following perks will be available to successful applicants for the Melbourne Law School PhD Scholarship:

  • Fees are waived for up to four years.
  • The stipend of 35,000 AUD per year (full-time study rate) for up to 4 years, with limited paid sick, maternity, and parental leave.
  • Where applicable, a relocation stipend and Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) are provided.
  • For project-related travel, the Laureate Project provides research assistance money.
  • The applicant will have access to up to $7500 in research assistance grants for the length of their candidacy since they will be based in Law. As needed, the applicant will have the chance to do paid research to assist the project.

How to Apply for the University of Melbourne PhD Scholarship and Fellowship

There are two phases to applying for this University of Melbourne PhD Scholarship and Fellowship.

Stage 1: In the first instance, candidates should provide Professor Sundhya Pahuja the following items:

  • CV in its entirety (including publications, if any).
  • All previous academic transcripts from undergraduate and graduate school, with complete grading scales.
  • Prior research (e.g., Honours thesis, Masters thesis, essays longer than 5,000 words, with titles and abstracts) should be included.
  • A large assessed research paper or thesis writing example by the applicant.
  • Two-page research proposal (maximum); this might be an indication of interest in a specific field of research indicated in the doctorate project section, along with some beginning thoughts on a specific project.

Stage 2: If selected, Professor Pahuja will contact candidates, generally with feedback on the original research proposal, and will need the following information:

  • Two referee reports. Referee reports must be delivered directly from the referees to Professor Sundhya Pahuja in order to protect confidentiality.
  • A good study proposal(1,500 to 2,000 words)

All successful candidates’ selections will be verified by the Melbourne Law School admissions committee, which may request further documentation in the future.
