To assist its students, the University’s faculties and schools have devised a variety of subject-specific programmes. International students may apply for the following scholarships:
The Manchester Science and Engineering International Excellence Scholarships
All foreign fee-paying, self-funded students will be considered for the award based on their UCAS application. There are 20 competitive £3,000 per year grants available for up to four years of study.
The Morton Award for International Excellence
International students in Chemical Engineering and Analytical Science that are self-funded are given the Morton Award for International Excellence. The highest-performing candidates will receive competitive grants of £3,000 each year for up to four years of study.
Pharmacy International Bursary
For self-funded international pharmacy students, the reward is £2,000 each year. Applicants can email [email protected] for further information.
Optometry International Bursary
The optometry prize is worth £2,000 per year and is for overseas students who have a love for optometry. For additional information, applicants can email [email protected]
Psychology International Bursary
Five overseas students who have been admitted into the three-year Psychology program worth £2,000 per year will receive the merit-based stipend. Contact u[email protected] for further information.
School of Biological Sciences Excellence Scholarship
Overseas students who are accepted into one of the School of Biological Sciences’ undergraduate programs are paid £2,000 each year. Contact [email protected] for further information.
School of Biological Sciences Foundation Year Bursary
The £14,750 prize is given to international students who have been accepted into the Biosciences Foundation Year. This bursary is only available during the Foundation Year. Contact [email protected] for further information.
Outstanding Academic Achievement Awards
Each year, the University gives £1,000 to the top 0.5 percent of undergraduate students upon graduation. Departments make nominations; for further information, contact [email protected]
BP Achievement Awards
Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Computer Science, Earth and Environmental Sciences (including Geology), Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, and Physics first and second-year undergraduate students get a £1,000 annual prize.
Students enrolled in related courses are asked to submit a 1,000-word essay on a certain topic. Per Department and year, up to three prizes are awarded. In most cases, email and poster advertising begins in December and ends in February. Students are chosen based on their admission qualifications/first-year exam scores, as well as the substance of their application/essay. [email protected] can provide further information.
BP Stem Scholarships
Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Earth and Environmental Sciences (including Geology), Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, and Physics and Astronomy are among the disciplines where first-year undergraduate students are awarded £3,000 per year.
BP invites students enrolled in relevant courses to apply online (normally in November of their first year). Students are chosen based on their resumes, online assessments, and an interview. International Excellence Undergraduate Scholarships
For any undergraduate degree study within the Faculty of Science and Engineering, highly qualified overseas students are granted £2,000 each year.
Indian Excellence Scholarships
Three Indian students who achieve the International Baccalaureate will be given £80,000 each. The top-ranked student will get £40,000, which will be paid out in annual installments of £10,000 for up to four years of study. Two students will each get a £20,000 scholarship, which will be paid out in annual installments of £5,000 for up to four years of study.
William Boyd Dawkins Scholarships
Students who obtain AAA at A-level are granted a £1,000 prize (or equivalent). Offer holders must have made the University their first choice in order to be considered. During their first year of education, successful applicants will receive a one-time payment of £1,000. Email [email protected] for further information.
Materials Science and Engineering Programmes
Outstanding domestic and international applicants for all Materials Science and Engineering programs will be automatically considered for a Department of Materials and Faculty scholarship worth £5,000 if they achieve AAA* grades at A-level (or equivalent) or £3,000 if they achieve AAA* grades at A level (or equivalent). International Mathematics Scholarship
New foreign students who meet the mathematics component of their entry criterion will receive a monetary prize of £1,000. The prize, which lasts for the duration of your undergraduate degree, whether three or four years, is paid immediately in the first year and is contingent on you maintaining a 65 percent exam average after that. All overseas students will be automatically considered for this award and will not be required to apply. As soon as we know whether you meet the admission criteria, we’ll let you know if you’re eligible for the International Mathematics Scholarship.
International Mathematical Excellence Scholarship
These excellence scholarships give up to £2,000 in support for one academic year and are granted to the brightest students each year, depending on the previous year’s exam results. Email [email protected] for additional information.
Physics Success Scholarship
The prize of £2,000 is given to overseas students who have exhibited academic distinction in their exams during their first year of study. Email [email protected] for additional information.
Power Academy Engineering Scholarships
For BEng/MEng students with good grades studying electrical and power engineering, the prize includes an IET membership, a scholarship, a contribution toward tuition costs and books/software, and professional development courses. Send an email to [email protected] for additional information.
National Instruments Engineering Scholarship Programme
To first-year undergraduate students studying relevant disciplines, the prize gives a paid internship and the opportunity for subsequent employment.
Institution of Mechanical Engineers Scholarships

The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET)
Students planning to begin any IET recognized MEng or BEng degree programme and projected to obtain a minimum of three Bs at A level may apply for support of up to £3,000 per year. Visit the IET website for additional information.

Manchester Law Scholars Award
The prize covers up to 25% of the yearly undergraduate tuition charge for students studying abroad. Foreign students enrolled for a full-time undergraduate degree at the Department of Law and paid overseas tuition costs. The grant is not accessible to any students starting a degree course after Year 1. More information may be obtained on the Department of Law website.
