Applicants must satisfy the following criteria to be considered for the Mastercard Foundation Scholarships:

Africans must be willing to enroll at the University of Cape Town for undergraduate or postgraduate study.
Academically gifted individuals who appreciate learning and are motivated to finish their degree are required.
Must be economically disadvantaged — unable to complete their studies due to budgetary constraints.
Must be dedicated to giving back to their communities by investing in them and employing the skills and information they have gained.
They must show that they are dedicated to ethical leadership and making a good difference in their communities.
