UN Environment Program (UNEP) Champions of the Earth Award 2022
The UN Environment Program (UNEP) Champions of the Earth Award 2022, which recognizes outstanding leaders from government, civil society, and the commercial sector for their transformational influence on the environment, is now accepting nominations.
To emphasize the importance of ecosystem restoration, the 2022 call for nominations encourages people and organizations to nominate persons and organizations that have helped to avoid, slow, or reverse ecological deterioration throughout the world. There has never been a greater pressing need to restore damaged ecosystems than now, over a year after the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration was launched. The Earth — and its inhabitants – will be healthier if our ecosystems are healthy.
Since its inception in 2005, the award has honored leaders who have committed their lives to make the world a better, more just, and sustainable place to live. A total of 106 laureates have been named Champions of the Earth, ranging from heads of state and grassroots activists to CEOs and pioneering scientists.
Categories
Individuals, groups, and organizations that have made remarkable contributions to environmental conservation and restoration are honored in four categories each year:
