United Nations (UN) Reham Al-Farra Memorial Journalism Fellowship 2022

The UN Reham Al-Farra Memorial Journalism Fellowship 2022 is now accepting applications.

UN Reham Al-Farra Memorial Journalism Fellowship

The Fellowship is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for young, professional journalists from emerging and transitional economies to cover the United Nations.

The program, which takes place every fall at UN Headquarters, invites a select group of journalists to New York to cover the General Assembly’s opening for their respective news organizations. Fellows get the chance to attend special briefings, interview top officials, and share ideas with colleagues from across the world throughout the 3-week program. Fellows have already met with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, Deputy Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, President of the General Assembly, and permanent representatives to the UN.

Visits to news organizations such as the New York Times, Democracy Now!, and BuzzFeed are also part of the curriculum.

The fellowship has been given to 611 journalists from 168 countries since its inception in 1981. Fellows are expected to continue working in media and promote a greater knowledge of the United Nations in their home countries after completing the program. Because all fellows are working journalists, the program does not give fundamental skills training.
