The Breakthrough Institute Generation Fellowship 2022
The Breakthrough Institute Generation Fellowship 2022 is now accepting applications.
The Breakthrough Institute’s young leaders program, Breakthrough Generation, trains and collaborates with the next generation of ecomodernist thinkers, authors, and researchers.
They provide a limited number of compensated, highly competitive ten-week fellowships to young professionals from all around the globe every summer from June to August.
The program is aimed towards graduating college seniors, young professionals, and post-graduate students in their early stages of study.
Program Overview
Breakthrough Bootcamp, an intellectual crash course comprising rigorous reading, writing, and an expert lecture series meant to offer a background in the broad-spectrum thinking that inspires Breakthrough’s policy agenda, runs for the first two weeks of the summer.
Modernization theory, social psychology, aspirational politics and philosophy, economics and innovation policy, and technology policy are among the topics discussed.
Fellows work in small groups for the rest of the fellowship in one of three program areas: Climate & Energy, Food & Farming, or Cities. Fellows write policy white papers, studies, and memoranda under the supervision of research personnel.
Previous projects have been published in publications such as The New York Times, Newsweek, Time Magazine, the Financial Times, The Wall Street Journal, the Harvard Law and Policy Journal, and congressional testimony, among others.
Fellows participate in the Breakthrough Dialogue, an opportunity to interact with leading thinkers, writers, and scholars in the study of society and the environment, as well as other talks, debates, and working groups within Breakthrough’s various program areas, in addition to research and analysis.
Benefits
- Fellows receive a stipend of $600 per week.
The Breakthrough Institute Generation Fellowship Requirements
- Applicants from any country are welcome to apply.
- The scholarship is open to final-year students, college graduates, and postgraduates.

Your basic information, a cover letter, résumé or CV, references, and three writing examples will be required.
All papers must be in PDF format to be submitted. Applications that are incomplete will not be evaluated.
