TechWomen Emerging Leaders Program – Fall 2022

TechWomen Emerging Leaders Program is a mentoring and exchange program that brings together rising women leaders in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) from Africa, Central and South Asia, and the Middle East with their professional counterparts in the United States.

Participants in TechWomen get access to networks, tools, and expertise that will help them achieve their greatest potential.

TechWomen will invite 108 women in STEM from 21 nations to the San Francisco Bay Area for #mentorship, learning, and exchange from September to October 2022.

About TechWomen Emerging Leaders Program

Participants participate in project-based mentorships at prominent organizations in the San Francisco Bay Area, attend professional development seminars and networking events, and fly to Washington, DC for targeted meetings and special events at the end of the five-week program.

The Emerging Leaders are immersed in the dynamic, ever-changing culture of Silicon Valley and the San Francisco Bay Area from the minute they arrive.

Emerging Leaders collaborate closely with their Professional Mentors to create significant initiatives while traveling throughout the San Francisco Bay Area with their Cultural Mentor and other program participants.

TechWomen Emerging Leaders will:

  • Challenge themselves with new questions and concepts
  • Collaborate with like-minded women in their fields on an innovative project
  • Network with influential industry leaders
  • Discover their own innovative leadership style
  • Create meaningful friendships with women from all over the world
  • Explore the diverse communities of the San Francisco Bay Area and Washington, D.C.
  • Inspire the next generation of women and girls in their home countries

Benefits of TechWomen Emerging Leaders Program

  • The TechWomen initiative covers the following expenses:
  • International round-trip airfare from the participant’s home country to the United States
  • Domestic flights from San Francisco to Washington, D.C. are available.
  • During the mentoring time, you will be housed in San Francisco or Sunnyvale, California.
  • Meals and miscellaneous expenses
  • Staying at a hotel in Washington, D.C.
  • To go to the participant’s host company, use public transportation.
  • In the San Francisco Bay Area and Washington, D.C., local transportation to group program activities is available.

Non-program activities, such as individual sightseeing and cultural events, as well as any non-program-related domestic or overseas travel, are the responsibility of the participants.

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • Women who have worked full-time in the STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) sectors for at least two years. Internships and other unpaid job experience do not count toward the required two years of professional experience.
  • A bachelor’s degree/four-year university degree or equivalent is required.
  • Be able to communicate in writing and spoken English.
  • At the time of application and while participating in the program, be citizens or permanent residents of Algeria, Cameroon, Egypt, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Palestinian Territories, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tajikistan, Tunisia, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, or Zimbabwe.
  • Be qualified for a J-1 exchange visitor visa in the United States.
  • In the last five years, you have not filed for an immigrant visa to the United States (other than the Diversity Immigrant Visa, sometimes known as the “visa lottery”).
  • You must not be a U.S. citizen or a lawful permanent resident of the United States.

Preference will be given to applicants who:

  • Work experience, volunteer experience, community activities, and education should all be used to demonstrate oneself as a growing leader in their chosen field.
  • Are devoted to sharing what they’ve learned and mentoring women and girls in their native countries.
  • Prior experience in the United States is minimal or non-existent.
  • Have a track record of community volunteerism or public service.
  • Have a proven track record of entrepreneurship and innovation dedication.
  • Demonstrate a desire to engage in exchange programs, accept mentorship opportunities, and form new partnerships, as well as confidence and maturity.

Application for TechWomen Emerging Leaders Program

The Fall 2022 TechWomen application will conclude on Wednesday, January 5, 2022, at 9:00 a.m. PST (GMT-08:00).

No later than April 30, 2022, applicants will be advised of their application status (non-select or semi-finalist).

No later than April 2022, semi-finalists will be notified for an in-country interview.

No later than May 31, 2022, will final choices be made.

The outcomes of all applications will be communicated to all applicants.
