Admission to the SARETI Masters program is now open for applications.
SARETI is an interdisciplinary education program for Africans in health research ethics. SARETI intends to increase Africa’s institutional training capacity for the ethical assessment of health research in order to achieve and sustain this goal.
SARETI is a Masters program at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (Pietermaritzburg) that is financed by the US National Institutes of Health’s Fogarty International Center (FIC) that offers advanced training in health research ethics.
Health researchers, scientists, members and administrators of Research Ethics Committees, public health specialists, social scientists, philosophers, ethicists, health journalists, lawyers, and other professions whose work affects health-related research will benefit from the training.
Application Requirements for SARETI
- A SUMMARY OF THE CURRICULUM VITAE (not more than 5 pages).
A two-page paper (not more) INSPIRING YOUR RESEARCH ETHICS TRAINING CHOICE.
- A LETTER FROM YOUR EMPLOYER stating that your proposed course of study is supported.
Obtaining suitable employment or advancement upon return.
Assuring you have enough time and resources to complete the research project once you return home.
- Copies of a few of your health-related articles (maximum of 5).
- Photocopies of your most impressive credentials (NB Certified copies or originals will be needed later on when you formally enroll).
- A certified copy of your passport is required.
How to apply for SARETI
If you earned your qualifications outside of South Africa, you must submit an application to the South African Qualification Authority (SAQA) for credential evaluation at:

While admittance is usually determined by merit and space availability, applicants may be asked to undergo a screening interview before being accepted.
Note that SARETI conducts all of its teaching and evaluation in English.
