Sanctuary Award Scholarship at Cardiff Metropolitan University in UK 2022

For the academic year 2022/23, Cardiff Metropolitan University in the United Kingdom is accepting applications for the Cardiff Metropolitan Sanctuary Award scholarship.

Sanctuary Award Scholarship

Cardiff Metropolitan University was named a University of Sanctuary in November 2018 for its efforts to increase awareness of sanctuary seeker concerns and provide assistance to asylum seekers and refugees.

The University has given two postgraduate sanctuary fellowships per year since 2016. This year, the University certifies that two postgraduate AND two undergraduate scholarships will be available for September 2022 admission.

The University is dedicated to providing those seeking asylum in the UK with equitable access to higher education and assisting them in realizing their full potential and objectives.

Worth of Scholarship

Each scholarship includes the following:

  • A full cost remission for the undergraduate or postgraduate programme for which the candidate has been accepted;
  • During the academic year (September – June), a Met Rider bus pass is valid.
    On weekdays throughout term time, a daily lunch ticket for use at Cardiff Met’s Students’ Union food outlets.
  • Personal assistance to help students identify and overcome obstacles to success in their degree program.

Sanctuary Award Scholarship | Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the Cardiff Met Sanctuary Award, all applications must satisfy all of the following criteria:

  • You are an asylum seeker in the United Kingdom, or you are a partner or dependent on an asylum seeker in the United Kingdom.

OR

You have been awarded Discretionary Leave to Remain (DLR), Limited Leave to Remain (LLR), or any other type of temporary status, such as Humanitarian Protection, after a judgment on your asylum petition. Please Note: Spouses/civil partners must have been the spouse/civil partner on the date on which the asylum application was made. Children/step-children must have been aged under 18 on the date on which the asylum application was made.

AND

  • You’ve received a conditional or unconditional offer from Cardiff Metropolitan University to begin a degree program in September 2022.
  • You are presently enrolled in a school, college, community, or volunteer organization that may serve as a reference for your application.
  • You haven’t earned a degree from another school or nation that is comparable to yours.
  • You live close enough to the campus to make commuting a breeze. (A Cardiff Met bus ticket is included in the scholarship package.)
  • You do not need assistance with your housing or living expenditures.
  • To apply, applicants must fulfill ALL of these stringent qualifying requirements and be able to prove their circumstances. Applicants who do not satisfy all of the requirements will be disqualified from consideration for the award.

How to Apply for the Sanctuary Award Scholarship

  • To study at Cardiff Met, you must first have a conditional or unconditional offer. If you haven’t applied to a university yet, Future Learn offers a free online course to guide asylum seekers through the application process.
  • Before submitting the Cardiff Met Sanctuary Award Application Form, please read the Guidance Notes for the Sanctuary Award Application Form 2021.
  • Applicants must additionally include a personal statement, a reference, and proof of their current immigration status/pending status in addition to the application form.

Deadline: Applicants must submit their applications by 5.00 p.m. on July 4, 2022.
