RSTMH Early Career Grants Programme Global Health Professionals 2022 (Up to £5,000)

The RSTMH Early Career Grants Programme is accepting applications for the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (RSTMH).

The funds are intended to support clinical or scientific research and/or fieldwork by early career researchers and global health professionals in the fields of tropical medicine and global health.

Early-career researchers and global health professionals from any country who have never received research money in their own name are eligible to apply.

Thematic Areas

RSTMH’s current strategy’s thematic themes, as well as lesser-known sectors of health, are promoted. The following are some of them:

  • Neglected tropical illnesses, with a special emphasis on their overlap with non-communicable Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs).
  • with the Sustainable Development Goals and Non-Communicable Diseases
    Malaria, with an emphasis on medication resistance.
  • One Health and the health of the whole planet. In the context of social, economic, and environmental factors, the consideration of human health with animal health and the environment as well as political considerations
  • Emerging illnesses, for example, are among the hot topics.
  • Infections that are resistant to drugs
  • Snakebite
  • NTDs of the skin, such as mycetoma
  • NCDs and co-morbidity
  • Coronavirus
  • Changes in the climate

RSTMH Early Career Grants

The maximum RSTMH Early Career grant is £5,000 (plus any applicable taxes) and is for a period of up to one year.

RSTMH Early Career Grants Programme Eligibility

  • Anyone in their early research career, regardless of country or location, is eligible to apply.
  • The program’s main goal is to motivate and inspire the next generation of global health leaders and innovators to pursue their ideas.
  • The funds are only available to RSTMH members.
  • Applicants who are not already members will have their membership paid for by one of their partners if they are selected, or RSTMH will deduct it from their reward if they are not.
  • Projects may be on any issue linked to tropical medicine and global health and can span the lab, translation, implementation, and policy research spectrum.

Candidates are not expected to have previously earned a research grant in their own name.

They should be able to do the following:

  • Conduct research under the supervision of a supervisor.
  • Have a desire to learn more about research methodology and disciplines.
  • Have shown a thorough mastery of a subject.
  • Demonstrate the capacity to generate data in a controlled environment.
  • Use critical analysis and assessment skills, as well as the ability to synthesize new and complicated concepts.
  • Explain the importance of their study to colleagues in a clear and concise manner.
