Royal Society Africa Prize for Research Scientists 2022

Nominations for the Royal Society Africa Prize 2022 are now being accepted.

Royal Society Africa Prize

The purpose of the prize is to honor African research scientists who are making a significant contribution to science.

The Royal Society offers a variety of medals, including Premier Prizes, subject-specific awards, and medals honoring scientific communication and promotion.

All of these honors are given to recognize and celebrate scientific achievement.

The Africa Prize will be awarded to a person who has made a major contribution to African capacity development via an extraordinary, creative contribution to science.

Award

  • The Reward will provide £15,000 to the Recipient for a research project and £2,000 to the Recipient as a personal prize.

Royal Society Africa Prize Requirements

  • The award is for academics who are just starting out in their research careers and have the potential to establish a research project around the prize.
  • The study must take place in Africa.
  • Senior academics and members of national academies of science may make nominations.
  • The project and candidate should be associated with an African center of excellence, which is often a university or similar research institution.
  • Normally, the Prize is awarded to someone who has not yet attained full Professorship rank.
  • Referees should be as impartial as feasible, i.e. not from the same department as the candidate, and not have published or cooperated with the nominee in the previous five years. Members of the appropriate selection committee or the Royal Society’s Council should not serve as referees.
