Rotary Foundation Graduate Scholarship for Middle-Low Income Countries in UK 2022

The Rotary Foundation is accepting applications for the Rotary Graduate Scholarship Program in the UK for students from middle-low-income countries for the academic year 2022/2023.

One of the largest privately financed scholarship programs in the world is the Rotary Scholarship Program. Rotary International commemorated the 70th anniversary of its scholarship program in 2017. Over 200 Scholars have been funded by this District in the previous 15 years, using either the former “Ambassadorial” plan or the current Global Grant system.

The majority of these students have studied inside their District and have been supported by their home Rotary Clubs and Districts, although District 1090 has also supported one (and on rare occasions two) scholars to study abroad or within their District. Scholarships are available for a single year or up to four years of full-time academic graduate education. The scholarship cannot be used for unsupervised research, internships or residencies in medicine, or full-time work.

Worth of Scholarship

  • Each of these scholarships is worth USD 30,000.
  • The sponsoring Rotary Club will be in charge of handling the money once the scholarship has been given.
  • The Rotary Foundation requires both the Club and the Scholar to submit reports.

Rotary Foundation Graduate Scholarship | Eligibility Criteria

This scholarship is for students from outside the United Kingdom who want to enroll in a graduate program in District 1090. To be eligible, you must:

  • Applicants must be citizens or long-term residents of a low- to a middle-income country, as defined by the UK Department of International Development, the World Bank, or another equivalent organization.

Candidates who meet the requirements outlined below and have been given seats on one of the following one-year full-time master’s courses at Reading University, beginning in September/October 2022, will be considered.

  • MSc Environmental Management in the Department of Geography and Environmental Science,
  • MSc Environmental Pollution in the Department of Geography and Environmental Science,
  • MSc Climate Change and Development in the Graduate Institute of International Development, Agriculture and Economics.

One or more of Rotary’s Areas of Focus must apply to the university programme.

  • The application is not open to Rotarians. It is not necessary for applicants to be connected to a Rotarian (partner, child or grandchild of a current Rotarian or someone who has been a Rotarian in the last three years). Scholarships are sponsored through Global Grants, which conforms to the rule that Rotarians and their families are not eligible to receive a Global Grant.

How to Apply

There are two stages to the application procedure. The Rotary Foundation central offices in the United States provide this scholarship, but it must first be approved by Rotary District 1090.

  • Applicants must complete and submit the online application form before the deadline.
  • A committee of the Rotary District 1090 Foundation Committee will review the applications.
  • The scholarship will be awarded to a chosen applicant and a runner-up.
  • Before the scholarship is given, applicants must present proof of acceptance from the university of their choice.

The application deadline is April 8, 2022, at 5 p.m.
