RIPS DAAD Masters and PhD Scholarships 2022
For the academic year 2022/23, the Regional Institute for Population Studies (RIPS) at the University of Ghana (UG) is accepting applications for the RIPS DAAD Masters and PhD Scholarships for International Students.

These scholarships are available to students who have finished a one- or two-year MA/MSc./MPH/MFA/MPhil, etc. program.
doctoral applicants must have a university degree with above-average Second Class Upper Division or similar results (for First degree).
Worth of Award
The DAAD scholarship will cover
- tuition,
- stipends, and
- accommodation for one-year Master of Arts (MA) and
- four-year Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) students.
RIPS DAAD Masters and PhD Scholarships Requirement
Only candidates who meet the following criteria will be considered for a DAAD scholarship:
- for people who have earned a three- or four-year university degree
- applying to MA (one-year program) with above-average Second Class Upper Division or similar scores.
- Demonstrate evident motivation and a strong commitment.
- possess a good understanding of the English language
- have usually obtained their most recent university degree within the previous six years at the application’s deadline
- are citizens or permanent residents of a country in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Women and others who work in fields relevant to the population are invited to apply.
How to Apply for RIPS DAAD Masters and PhD Scholarships
MA candidates must provide the following documents:
- Certificate in Undergraduate Studies
- Transcript of Undergraduate Studies
- Motivational statement of one page (Heading: Motivational Statement & your Name)
- At the time of application, the TOEFL/IELTS test results had not been older than two years (if applying as a national or permanent resident of a non-English speaking African country)
The following documents were needed of PhD applicants:
- Certificate in Undergraduate Studies
- Transcript of Undergraduate Studies
- Motivational statement of one page (Heading: Motivational Statement & your Name)
- Certificate of Completion
- Transcript of a Graduate
A budget must be included in the study proposal.

- [100-word limit] suggested research objective(s)/question(s),
- [900-word limit] approach and
- citations (3-page maximum, 1.5 line spacing)
Exam results from the TOEFL/IELTS should not be older than two years at the time of application (if applying as a national or permanent resident of a non-English speaking African country).
If your Master’s dissertation or thesis was written in English, you are excused from this requirement.
Deadline: Candidates’ applications for the RIPS DAAD Masters and PhD Scholarships should be submitted to RIPS on or before January 14th, 2022.
