The Pulitzer Center for Public Service seeks submissions for Al Accountability Fellowships in the United States in 2022.
The Al Accountability Fellowships are designed to help staff and freelance journalists work on in-depth AI accountability stories that look at how governments and corporations use predictive and surveillance technologies to guide decisions in policing, medicine, social welfare, the criminal justice system, hiring, and other areas.

Worth of Scholarship
- The Fellowship will grant journalists up to $20,000 to pursue their reporting assignment over the course of eight months.
- The funding can be used to cover record requests, travel fees, data analysis, and stipends, among other things.
- The Fellows will also get access to mentors and appropriate training with a group of peers, which will help them improve their reporting initiatives.

Reporters
- having a keen interest in how artificial intelligence (AI) affects the world and why it is important to our collective well-being.
- eager to take part in outreach initiatives linked to their research, such as school and university events
- It is possible to be based everywhere. The Fellowships are located in an isolated location.
How to Apply
To be considered for the Fellowship, you must provide the following information:
A
- a brief statement of intent describing how this Fellowship fits into your professional path and why you are the ideal candidate for an Al Accountability Fellow (maximum 250 words)
- a thorough explanation of the reporting project you would want to work on during your Fellowship Please do not offer broad ideas, but rather a specific initiative that demonstrates some pre-reporting on the topic. A well-researched project proposal with a reporting strategy will set you apart from the dozens of other candidates. (maximum 250 words)
- A budget that details the project’s expected expenses. Records requests, software, data analysis, travel and housing, and stipends are examples of possible categories.
- a letter of commitment or interest from a media outlet that would be interested in publishing your story(ies).
- a copy of your curriculum vitae or resume
- Three samples of your best stories over the last three years (links) (not necessarily on AI accountability).
- Three professional references are provided: Contact information or letters of recommendation can be included.
Submissions for the Pulitzer Center Al Accountability Fellowships must be received by April 15, 2022, at 11:59 p.m. EST.
