Requirements for the Philip Leverhulme Prizes
Nominees must meet certain criteria in order to be considered for the Philip Leverhulme Prizes.
- must have a permanent position or a long-term fellowship at a UK higher education or research institution.
This position or fellowship is anticipated to last beyond the Philip Leverhulme Prize period. Those without a salary, on the other hand, are not entitled to be nominated. - should have received their doctorate degree no more than 10 years previous to the deadline for submissions. The award date is defined as the day on which the granting institution verified the degree.
- It is crucial to emphasize that rewards are given to people. As a result, if two (or more) nominations are submitted for practically the same body of work, the Trust Board will not consider making an award.

But that’s not all; each year, proposals will be examined in one of six large topic areas. These alternate every three years. As a result, you cannot be nominated for more than one award topic in any three-year period.

- Earth Sciences are the study of the earth.
- Physics
- International Relations and Politics
- Psychology
- Visual and Performing Arts

Eligible items of expenditure include:
- research assistance
- teaching replacement
- travel and subsistence
- consumables (including specialist books, databases, and similar materials)
- technical assistance
- computer software and hardware
Ineligible items of expenditure are:
- machinery and equipment
- wage increase for the prize winner
- Institution overheads
How to Apply for the Philip Leverhulme Prizes
Are you unsure how to submit a nomination? So, here’s what you should know:
- The nominee’s head of department must make the nomination (or equivalent).
- In every award category, no institution may submit more than three nominations.
- Please visit the Leverhulme Trust Grants Management System to submit a nomination. Google Chrome is the preferred browser.
- Both the head of the department and an administrative official acting on behalf of the institution must provide their consent.
- Finally, after being nominated, candidates will be notified of the outcome of their nominations by the end of November.
