Obama Foundation Leaders Asia-Pacific Program

The 2022 Leaders Asia-Pacific program is a six-month leadership development and community involvement program that takes place entirely online.

The program will bring together a small group of rising leaders from throughout the Asia-Pacific region for 8-12 hours each month to form a strong community of support based on a common vision of values-based leadership.

Participants (know as “Obama Leaders” or “Leaders”) will take part in weekly sessions that include:

  • Coaching on an individual basis
  • Training that combine a variety of skill-building courses, such as values-based storytelling and leading social change through complexity, with one-on-one coaching sessions.
  • Possibilities to form close bonds with one another
  • Vibrant cultural programs that reflects the region’s vast diversity
  • Conversations with eminent thinkers that are both inspiring and enlightening

After completing the program, Obama Leaders will join the Obama Foundation’s global leadership network, which will include a new generation of civically engaged, positive role models who are ready to provide practical answers to today’s concerns.

Obama Foundation Leaders Asia-Pacific Program Requirements

To be admitted into the Leaders Asia-Pacific program, candidates must meet ALL of the following qualifying criteria:

  • Based in Asia-Pacific: Currently lives in an Asia-Pacific country or territory that qualifies.
  • American Samoa; Australia; Brunei; Cambodia; China, People’s Republic of; Cook Islands; Federated States of Micronesia; Fiji; French Polynesia; Guam; Hawai’i; Hong Kong, People’s Republic of; Indonesia; Japan; Kiribati; Korea, North (DPRK); Korea, South (ROK); Laos; Malaysia; Marshall Islands; Mongolia; Myanmar; Nauru; New Caledonia; Macao, People’s
  • Please note that this program is not available to citizens of South Asian nations. In the future, the Obama Foundation plans to provide leadership training for nations in South Asia.
  • Citizenship/Residency: One of the conditions listed below must be met.
  • Either a citizen or a resident of an eligible Asia-Pacific country or territory
  • Permanent resident of a country or territory in the Asia-Pacific region that qualifies OR
  • In an eligible Asia-Pacific country or territory, a refugee or asylum seeker OR
  • For at least the previous 5 years, regardless of legal status, you must have resided in an eligible Asia-Pacific country or territory.
  • Geographic Focus: Work is focused on making a positive difference in their local community, a qualifying Asia-Pacific country or territory, and/or the larger Asia-Pacific area. Shows a strong dedication to working in the Asia-Pacific region.
  • Leadership Experience: At least three years of relevant experience in their subject area is required.
  • On April 1, 2022, he will be between the ages of 24 and 40.
  • Proficiency in English: Professionally competent in English (spoken and written).
  • Political Campaigns: Between April and September 2022, no election campaign for political office will be held.
  • Program Commitment: Can commit to fully participating in the program from April to September 2022 for the whole term. Each month, participants may anticipate 8 to 12 hours of live virtual programming, with the majority of programming taking place on Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings (GMT+8).
  • Ideal applicants are guided by fundamental principles, devoted to furthering equality, eager to learn and contribute to the learning of others, and willing to invest heavily in the development of a community within the Leaders cohort.


From December 2021 to April 2022, the selection procedure will take place.

They thoroughly examine each application and do the extra investigation to confirm the facts provided.

Finalists will be interviewed virtually by Obama Foundation personnel and program alumni.

The 2022 Leaders Asia-Pacific application will close at 11:59 PM MYT (GMT+8) on Thursday, December 2, 2021.
