Parents and students were upset when JAMB set the cut-off mark for universities at 120. However, universities like Obafemi Awolowo University, University of Lagos, University of Benin, and the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, decided to set their cut-off point at 200 and above.
More than 70 per cent of Nigerian universities decided to raise the cut-off score for admission. Many other Nigerian universities also raised their cut-off scores, from 120 to 170 and especially 180.
Even though JAMB decided to set the cutoff score at 120, candidates with a low JAMB score may find it hard to get into any Nigerian university that accepts 120 as its cutoff score for admission.
Pro Tip: Keep in mind that even though the UTME board set the cut-off score for universities at 120, universities are allowed to raise their cut-off scores depending on how many applicants they have.
