John M Gunn International Scholarship for Visiting Undergraduate Students in USA 2022

For the 2022/23 academic year, Washington and Lee University is accepting applications for the John M Gunn International Scholarship for Visiting Students.

Gunn scholars may be from any academic subject, however, priority is given to students who 

  1. will concentrate some of their efforts in our Williams School, which houses the departments of Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, and Politics (including American Politics, Global Politics, and Political Theory), as well as the departments of Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, and Politics (including American Politics, Global Politics, and Political Theory).
  2. are interested in obtaining a liberal arts education.

The Williams School allows Gunn Scholars to pursue up to FOUR courses. Students must take courses in the College of Arts and Sciences and/or one of their numerous multidisciplinary programs, such as “Law, Justice, and Society” or “Poverty and Human Capability,” to get familiarity with the American liberal form of education.

After the Gunn scholar is chosen, he or she will be given an academic advisor at the Williams School who will help the scholar choose coursework for the next fall semester.

Students at W&L have access to a wide range of academic, athletic, and extracurricular activities, as well as distinctive on-campus living alternatives including the Global Service House.

Worth of Scholarship

Eligible candidates are encouraged to spend a year at W&L to supplement their main studies at their home universities via the Gunn Scholarship.

For one year, the scholarship covers the whole cost of tuition, accommodation, board, and transportation.

Requirements for the John M Gunn International Scholarship

  • Gunn Scholars must meet the following criteria in order to be considered:
  • Be enrolled in an undergraduate degree program at an institution outside the United States.
  • Be able to communicate well in English.
  • Students who show financial need are eligible for scholarships.

How to Apply for the John M Gunn International Scholarship

The following will be included in your application:

  • Transcripts of official meetings
  • Two recommendation letters
  • Evidence of an active extracurricular life
  • Two personal narratives
  • Score on the TOEFL or IELTS
  • The application is currently only accessible for internet submission. Please don’t mail copies on paper.

Deadline for applications: March 7, 2022.
