ISEG Postgraduate Training Fellowship in Medical Statistics for African Scientists in UK 2022

For the academic year 2022/23, the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine is accepting applications for the ISEG Postgraduate Training Fellowship in Medical Statistics for African Scientists in the UK.

The scheme allows promising research students from Sub-Saharan Africa to study Medical Statistics at LSHTM for an MSc. After that, he’ll spend a year working as a statistician at one of the organization’s African partner centers. Members of the Group continue to mentor, supervise, and assist the fellows throughout the course of their fellowship.

The fellow’s summer project frequently serves as an introduction to the research subject that will be studied further during the placement year. The fellow is exposed to several facets of research during the placement year.

They involve research design, data management, data analysis, and findings reporting. Local statisticians and researchers, as well as relevant ISEG members, advise fellows.

The UK Medical Research Council (MRC) and the Faculty of Epidemiology and Population Health at LSHTM are offering two fellowships to cover two years of medical statistics training. The chosen applicants will study for an MSc in Medical Statistics at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine for the first year (LSHTM).

Following that, a one-year professional attachment to one of the African centers affiliated with the MRC International Statistics and Epidemiology Group (ISEG) at LSHTM will be completed. Training fellows will improve their statistics and research abilities by working on projects with the help of ISEG experts during their professional attachment.

Worth of Scholarship

The fellowship will cover the following expenses:

ISEG Postgraduate Training Fellowship | Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidates must be (or have been) postgraduate students to be considered for the ISEG Postgraduate Training Fellowship.
  • resident in and a national of a country in sub-Saharan Africa
  • Having a strong academic background in mathematics, statistics, or a similar field.
  • 1 year of experience in medical statistics or epidemiology is required.
  • ability to satisfy the English language criteria outlined in the policy on English language requirements

Extremely Important

Support will not be provided as a supplement to other sources of financing or to students who already have support.
