Ilia Calderón Scholarship to Attend the One Young World Summit 2022

The Ilia Calderón Scholarship to Attend the One Young World Summit is currently accepting applications for the 2022/2023 academic session.

Ilia Calderón Scholarship

Following the success of the Ilia Calderón Scholarship in 2021, One Young World has partnered with the Jang Calderón Family Foundation to support young Afro-descendant or Indigenous leaders in Latin America and the Caribbean between the ages of 18 and 30, who are leading innovative and impactful initiatives.

The Ilia Calderón Scholarship will choose and pay two Afro-descendant or Indigenous leaders who will be able to go to Tokyo, Japan, to attend the One Young World 2022 Summit.


The scholarship will provide:

  • Access to the Tokyo-hosted One Young World Summit in 2022;
  • Accommodation in a private room at a hotel between the ages of 16 and 19. (inclusive) 2022; May
  • Travel to and from Tokyo (economy class) costs;
  • Costs of domestic travel to the airport for an international flight (economy class).
  • Expenses associated with obtaining a visa, if applicable;
  • Transportation from the Summit lodging to the Summit venue;
  • Breakfast, lunch, and dinner catering (supplied by the hotel and available throughout the Summit);
  • In the plenary sessions, welcome and closing events, translation services from English to Spanish will be provided.

Ilia Calderón Scholarship Requirements

  • Candidates must be aged 18 – 30 at the time of the One Young World Summit 2022 which takes place in Tokyo from 16 -19 May 2022.
  • Be from one of the following countries: Colombia, Venezuela, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Panama, Honduras, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua, Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Cuba, Dominica, Guyana, Grenada, Jamaica, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, Brazil.

Evaluation Criteria

Candidates will also be evaluated on the following:

  • Demonstrate a dedication to the communities or territories to which they belong, as well as the possible advantages to those communities or territories.
  • The efforts in which he/she leads or participates are relevant.
  • Capacity for leadership has been shown.
  • In their neighborhood or regions, they should address important local and/or global concerns.
  • Have a track record of coming up with new and powerful ideas.
  • One Young World is motivating me to participate.
