IFCN Global Fact-Checking Mentorship Program 2022

The IFCN Global Fact-Checking Mentorship Program 2022 is now accepting applications.

The Poynter Institute’s International Fact-Checking Network, in collaboration with Facebook, has created a worldwide mentoring program that will tap on member organizations’ experience in peer-to-peer information sharing.

These programs will be scaled up and made available to the whole IFCN community; expanded training outputs might include webinars, online courses, case studies, and so on.

Both mentors and mentees will be compensated in the amount of up to $450,000.

Overview

The IFCN Mentorship Program will pair IFCN signatories that have proven competence in certain themes with other IFCN signatory organizations that want to improve their skills in those areas.

For maximum effect, applicants must describe their area of expertise and target audience. The following are examples of mentorship subjects, however, they are not exhaustive:

• Detecting fake news on social media. How to spot possible disinformation using monitoring tools and source advice.

• Using new forms to communicate fact checks. How to transmit fact-checks to a larger audience through videos, podcasts, memes, and other innovative media.

• Collaboration between businesses. How to work successfully with other fact-checking groups and publications to better confront disinformation, especially during breaking news events.

• Media literacy is a term that refers to the ability to How to launch media literacy programs and other measures to assist local populations in spotting false information.

• Operations and training. How to create successful training programs and operational techniques to assist fact-checking groups in dealing with disinformation more effectively.

• Misinformation about health and science. How to tackle scientific assertions and set up a framework to help an organization disprove health misinformation.

IFCN Global Fact-Checking Mentorship Program Requirements

• The program is accessible to IFCN signatories, fact-checking groups, and ecosystem partners who have shown success or competence in a particular field.

• Mentors will be expected to give instructional resources to other fact-checkers and journalists.

• Applications involving a collaboration between an IFCN signatory and another organization will be accepted but will need an extra MOU, which will be included in the application.

Documented success in establishing or executing training and development on a key issue area is characterized as demonstrated competence. Here are several examples:

• Previously completed project providing success metrics in the topic area.

• In the past, I’ve done some training and teaching.

• Existing subject-matter training resources or courses.

• Organizations achieve success in a certain sector when they get public recognition or accolades.
