ICRW Paula Kantor Award for Excellence in Field Research 2022 ($2,500 prize)

The International Center for Research on Women (ICRW) Paula Kantor Award for Excellence in Field Research 2022 is now accepting applications.

ICRW Paula Kantor Award for Excellence

The Award celebrates and rewards exceptional performance in the domains of gender equity and empowerment of women, girls, and other oppressed populations.

The award acknowledges and honors excellent performance in the domains of gender equity and women’s, girls’, and other underrepresented populations.

With almost 20 years of experience doing policy research and programmatic work linked to integrating gender into agricultural and rural development, Dr. Kantor was a renowned expert on gender issues and international development. Dr. Kantor’s work was mainly motivated by her desire to better the lives of people in the Global South, particularly women and girls.

This award will be given to a young professional female researcher who is contributing to the global evidence base supporting policies and programs that promote gender equity, in the spirit of Dr. Paula Kantor’s legacy of supporting applied research to advance women’s economic and social well-being. The researcher must be undertaking field research in low-income or otherwise marginalized areas across the world that is related to ICRW’s goal.

Award

A monetary reward of $2,500 is included in the award.

ICRW Paula Kantor Award for Excellence | Eligibility Criteria

  • Women researchers under the age of 40 who are nationals of countries in the Global South are eligible to apply.
  • The research or body of work can be done in any nation, including the United States, but it must be done in low-income or otherwise marginalized areas with the main focus on gender equity and women’s and girls’ empowerment.
  • Social science research should help to bridge evidence gaps that are critical to determining the best options for improving the lives of women, girls, and other oppressed groups. Quantitative, qualitative, or mixed approaches research methodologies may be used;
  • In the case of the candidates’ work, the study findings should have been communicated with the scientific community and/or relevant stakeholders.
  • Findings should have been communicated through appropriate reports, peer-reviewed journal papers, book chapters, multi-media campaigns, or other forms of communication. Publications co-authored by two or more people are likewise acceptable, as are collaborative dissemination initiatives.
  • A research project that is part of an advanced degree requirement is not eligible.

ICRW Paula Kantor Award for Excellence | Evaluation Criteria

The following criteria will be used by the selection committee to evaluate submissions:

  • The nominee’s employment of a strong research technique that adheres to ethical research guidelines;
  • The nominee’s adoption of innovative methods in the program’s activities, as well as their implementation and sustainability metrics;
  • A strong gender-focused conception of the research/body of work, with suitable and relevant data collection, analysis, and interpretation approaches. This activity may or may not be connected to a specific program or assessment.
