ICFJ Emerging Media Leaders Program 2022 for Latin America & the Caribbean

The ICFJ Emerging Media Leaders Program 2022 is now accepting applications.

ICFJ Emerging Media Leaders Program

This Professional Fellows Program (PFP) is a two-year exchange program for Latin American and Caribbean media professionals (journalists, technologists, and media entrepreneurs) to learn how to use digital tools to build viable news businesses that provide news and information in the public interest.

Media professionals from 21 Latin American and Caribbean countries will be able to work directly with US media organizations, develop entrepreneurship projects, and improve their skills in investigative journalism, fact-checking, and podcasting, as well as non-journalistic skills like how to build a sustainable business model, through the program.

U.S. media workers may also go on study trips overseas, connect with media outlets all across the hemisphere, and form long-lasting bonds with other participants and communities.

Program Details

The following items are included in the six-week program:

ICFJ will lead a week of orientation. Fellows get hands-on training in digital tools and methods, as well as the opportunity to discuss their project concepts with other media innovators in a secure environment conducive to cooperation and learning. In Washington, DC, the orientation will take place.

Professional newsroom embedding for four weeks. Based on the fellows’ backgrounds, talents, and project suggestions, the program matches them with U.S. newsrooms, digital communications businesses, and startup incubators. Fellows will have the opportunity to meet and learn from various teams in the newsrooms throughout their newsroom embedments.
The Professional Fellows Congress is an annual gathering of professional fellows. The congress, which takes place in Washington, DC, is a fantastic chance to network, learn, and meet Professional Fellows from all around the globe.
