Harvard South Africa Fellowship Program 2022 (Funded)

The Harvard South Africa Fellowship Program 2022 is now accepting applications.

The Harvard South Africa Fellowship Program was created in 1979 by Harvard University President Derek Bok to meet the needs of South Africans who were denied access to further education due to the apartheid regime.

The inception of this program was a direct reaction to the strong divestment movement led by Harvard students and professors in the 1970s.

With the purpose of delivering a “transformational experience” at Harvard University during the fellowship year, the Harvard South Africa Fellowship Program continues to serve as an intellectual resource for exceptional South Africans.

The program was created for mid-career professionals in South Africa who had been disadvantaged educationally due to earlier regulations and resource allocations.

In order to attract the widest possible spectrum of applicants for the program, HSAFP is working to broaden its reach to institutions and organizations throughout South Africa.

Cost

The fellowship covers all tuition for the duration of the student’s time at Harvard.

The fellowship also covers round-trip travel from the fellow’s home city to Boston.

Fellows, with the exception of those enrolling in the Executive Education Programs, receive a monthly stipend to cover the cost of accommodation and other living costs.

Typically, housing is found in university graduate dorms.
