The Postdoctoral Research Fellowship Program at the Center for African Studies is designed to give postdoctoral candidates the opportunity to conduct independent research, publish, and gain knowledge in their fields of study that will benefit the African continent, as well as to prepare them for success in their chosen career paths.

Harvard Postdoctoral Research Fellowship | Eligibility Criteria
Those who wish to apply for a postdoctoral research fellowship at Harvard University.
- A PhD or similar doctoral-level research degree is required (preference will be given to those who completed PhD in past five years). That is, you must be a salaried academic position at one of the qualified universities and work in any subject with a strategic interest in Africa.
Before beginning the Fellowship, those who have not yet acquired their degree must provide proof of having completed the academic prerequisites. - They must find a Harvard faculty mentor to help them with their research and academic work, as well as a second mentor at their home university. During the application process, both mentors must provide letters of recommendation.
Applicants must additionally possess the following qualifications:
- The ability to communicate in English.
- They will receive assistance from their home institutions to undertake an 18-month fellowship appointment, including six months spent in a stipend-supported residence in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Fellows will have access to their mentor at both schools during the fellowship time, as well as Harvard’s library resources and seminar/conference possibilities.
