The Harry Frank Guggenheim Foundation is accepting submissions for the Harry Frank Guggenheim Distinguished Scholar Awards in the United States of America year 2022.

Proposals from any of the scientific and social sciences, as well as related fields, are accepted, as long as they promise to improve knowledge of the origins, manifestations, and control of violence and aggressiveness. Research that tackles pressing, current-day concerns of violence—what causes it, how it functions, and what prevents or lowers it—gets top consideration.

The Foundation is interested in violence linked to a wide range of topics, including but not limited to:

War
Crime
Terrorism
Family and intimate-partner relationships
Climate instability and natural resource competition
Racial, ethnic, and religious conflict
Political extremism and nationalism

The Foundation promotes research into the underlying processes that cause violence, but proposals that make a persuasive argument for the application of prospective discoveries to policies aimed at reducing these problems are given priority. Similarly, a historical study is examined only if it is relevant to a contemporary violent scenario. Examining the consequences of violence is beneficial inasmuch as it establishes a convincing argument that these results may act as causes of future violence.

Worth of Award

The majority of grants vary from $15,000 to $45,000 each year for one or two years.
Applications for bigger sums and longer periods of time will be accepted, but they must be well-founded.
Individuals (or, on rare occasions, two or three main investigators) get funds for particular initiatives rather than broad research assistance. Institutions do not get them for institutional programs. I should mention that recipients of research funding may be liable to taxes on the monies received.

The prize cannot be used to fund research that is part of a graduate degree’s requirements.
Although most candidates are college or university teachers, they are not required to be linked with a higher education institution.
