EU-IOM Reporting Migration Competition 2022 for Nigerian journalists
The EU-IOM Reporting Migration Competition 2022 is now accepting applications.

The EU-IOM Joint Initiative for Migrant Protection and Reintegration is holding a reporting migration competition in West and Central African nations in order to promote high-quality reporting on migrant reintegration and protection. This is a competition in which Nigeria is competing.
This effort is built on a “solutions journalism” approach to identifying and reacting to important social challenges. This journalistic technique aims to accomplish the following:
- Tell stories about migration in a fair and ethical manner.
- Disseminate reliable data to assist communities and families in assisting migrants in making informed migration decisions.
- Share true stories that may help to protect the dignity of migrants all across the globe.
Thematic Areas
Journalists are asked to submit their published print, online, or broadcast (radio or video) pieces on the following topic areas to compete in this competition:
- Irregular migration, return, and reintegration
- Migrant protection
- Migrants with vulnerabilities
Prizes
Journalists will compete for a share of USD 6,000. The cash prize will be distributed as follows:
- 1st Place: USD 800
- 2nd Place: USD 500
- 3rd Place: USD 300

EU-IOM Reporting Migration Competition | Eligibility Criteria
- Journalists from all media organizations, as well as independent workers, who are 18 years old or older, are welcome to apply.
- Nigerian nationals or residents;
- All entries must have a thematic focus on one of the three areas listed above.
- The emphasis of the entries must be on Nigeria.
Submission Criteria
A jury comprised of IOM experts and partners will choose the winning submissions. The following criteria will be used to evaluate the articles:
- Between July 2021 and March 2022, the articles or reports should have been published or shown on television.
- During the competition period, the material submitted must have been published in English by a media source.
- focuses on one of the above-mentioned theme areas
- The length of an article should not exceed 5,000 characters.
- Reports on video, audio, or radio should not go more than 30 minutes.
