The US Embassy is happy to announce the EducationUSA Opportunity Funds Program (OFP) for 2022/2023, which is accessible to qualified candidates from all Nigerian states who want to study in the United States.
In Nigeria, there are a number of hard-working, low-income students who are capable of making a positive impact on their lives if given the opportunity. For the 12th year in a row, the United States Embassy in Nigeria is looking for academically prepared and highly motivated, low-income students in Nigeria to join the EducationUSA Opportunity Funds Program (OFP).

Through regularly planned meetings and seminars, the EducationUSA Opportunity Funds Program (OFP) works directly with students to help them throughout the application process for admission and scholarships to attend schools and institutions in the United States. OFP covers the cost of the application procedure, including registration costs for mandatory standardized exams, and offers participants free participation in the US EducationUSA Advising Center. OFP expects a genuine commitment from students to devote their time and attention to the program in order to realize their ambitions of studying in the United States.

- In terms of academic performance:
Undergraduate Applicants– College and University Students Your WAEC “O” Level scores should be attached (from the WAEC website). If relevant, provide Cambridge A’Level or IGSCE results.
Graduate Applicants– If you are a recent graduate applying for a job, please provide a copy of your transcripts and degree certificate (if available) Only first-class fares are available (STEM majors preferred).

Undergraduate Applicants: Please have a teacher or the administrator of your school write a letter of reference for you, attesting to your qualities of character, ability, and abilities on behalf of all undergraduate applicants. Please exclude generic testimonials that don’t mention you by name.
Graduate Applicants: A professor, lecturer, or head of department (HOD) might be contacted to learn more about you as a graduate applicant.
Transcript:
Undergraduate Applicants: Students in their first three years of college should provide a scanned copy of their transcripts, including their sample and first-term grades if they have them.
Graduate Applicants– Aspiring Doctoral Scholars The transcripts should reflect a GPA of 4.5 or above on a scale of 5.0.
Essays:
Write two 250–300 word essays, one from each of the following groups: A and B. You’ll find the essay questions on your application form. On the form, you’ll see a list of essay subjects.
Selection Criteria
Due to the restricted financing, the EducationUSA Opportunity Funds Program (OFP) has a very tough selection process for its finalists. We’re looking for someone who can demonstrate the following qualities:
- Strong academic record/ transcript
- Robust participation in extracurricular activities
- Involvement in leadership roles
- Excellent community service participation
- Financial Need
Note: If a student’s WAEC results are unavailable, they must be actively enrolled in SS3. There must be May/June WAEC results if there are WAEC results at all.
Students who have already started a University education are NOT eligible to apply.
