Donald Reynolds Journalism Institute Fellowships for Journalists in USA 2022 are accepting application
Developing new techniques or models to tackle an issue, constructing new tools, producing a prototype, or advancing a prototype so it’s ready for investment or launch are all common initiatives.
During the 8-month fellowship, all initiatives will be designed and executed in a newsroom.
Whatever your plan is, it should be able to assist other news organizations as well as the people who rely on them.

After your idea has been tested or used in a newspaper, you will publish the findings and lessons learned from its deployment at the conclusion of your fellowship.
RJI Fellowships are divided into three categories:
1. Residential
Residential fellowships are for anyone who desires to work with RJI employees, students, and instructors on-site at our Columbia, Missouri headquarters.
Residential fellows spend eight months on campus at the Missouri School of Journalism, taking use of RJI and the Missouri School of Journalism’s intellectual and technical resources.
Access to programmers and app developers, assistance with market research, and hired students to create multimedia material are all examples of resources.
Your final output, which may take the shape of strategies, goods, or services, will be shared with a variety of news and news-related companies.
For the length of the fellowship, you must live in Columbia, Missouri.
During your fellowship, you may test and execute the idea in one of Mizzou’s newsrooms or another newsroom of your choice.
2. Nonresidential
Nonresidential fellowships might focus on something you want to do on your own or something that would assist your existing workplace.
You do not need to reside in Columbia, but you must come at least once to meet with RJI leadership and employees.
During your fellowship, your initiative will be deployed and tested in the newsroom of your choosing.
3. Institutional
Institutional fellowships are intended to unleash some of your newsroom’s or company’s serious, significant ideas that haven’t been able to be explored for different reasons.
RJI will work with a leader at your institution or organization who can design the concept and manage a team to bring it to life.
That leader will be dubbed an RJI Fellow, but he or she will continue to work in their current position.
Worth of Award for Donald Reynolds Journalism Institute Fellowships
- Residential Fellows are paid a monthly stipend of $10,000 and are eligible for a one-time relocation reimbursement of up to $10,000.
- Nonresidential Fellows are paid a stipend of $20,000 every quarter in $5000 increments.
- Institutional: The fellowship stipend will be provided to the business or institution to be utilized for salary reduction for the fellow or for another purpose determined by the firm or institution to best assure the fellowship project’s success.
- Institutions receiving a $20,000 stipend are paid quarterly in $5000 increments to the institution.
Donald Reynolds Journalism Institute Fellowships Requirement
- U.S. citizens and news organizations, as well as foreign news organizations, are eligible for RJI Fellowships.
- They also seek applications from overseas journalists who want to collaborate with journalism, technology, and civil society groups headquartered in the United States.

- You will be asked to answer a second, more extensive series of questions regarding the project, its deliverables, your credentials to partner with us, and more if your proposal advances to the next round of review.
- They will interview finalists for fellowships after the second step.
