Desmond Tutu/Church of Scotland Masters Scholarship for Africans at Edinburgh in UK 2022
For the academic year 2022/2023, the University of Edinburgh is accepting applications for the Desmond Tutu/Church of Scotland Masters Scholarship, which will allow African students to study in the United Kingdom.
The scholarship will be given to an African student who is accepted on a full-time basis. This is for a one-year postgraduate Master’s program in the School of Divinity for those who have received official approval from their Church’s General Secretary or Principal Clerk.
This scholarship was established in 2009 to honor the Doctor of Divinity Honorary Degree. The University bestowed this honor to the Most Reverend Desmond Tutu.
Worth of Scholarship
In reality, the scholarship will cover the following:
- Fees for full-time study in another country
- Accommodation in an Edinburgh flat owned by the Church of Scotland
- Living expenditures are £500 per calendar month.
- The cost of a visa
- one round-trip ticket
- Aviva underwrites Church of Scotland corporate travel insurance.
- The scholarship will last for one academic year.
Requirements for the Desmond Tutu/Church of Scotland Masters Scholarship
Shortlisted applicants must, without a doubt, obtain the formal support of their Church’s General Secretary or Principal Clerk.
As a result, candidates must be members of an African Church of Scotland partner church.

- Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana
- Presbyterian Church of Ghana
- Presbyterian Church of East Africa
- Synod of the Nile of the Evangelical Church of Egypt
- Church of Central Africa Presbyterian
Others include
- Igreja Evangelica de Cristo em Mocambique
- Presbyterian Church of Nigeria
- Presbyterian Church of South Sudan
- United Church of Zambia
- Uniting Presbyterian Church of Southern Africa
It’s crucial to keep in mind that
- Candidates having a Bachelor’s degree will be considered for the scholarship, which will be offered on the basis of academic merit. This degree should be comparable to a first-class or 2:1 Honours degree in the United Kingdom.
- In addition to the aforementioned academic credentials, the selection panel will consider the candidates’ financial conditions. This is just to verify that a student’s financial circumstances do not prevent them from pursuing a university degree.

Applicants that meet the criteria should fill out an online scholarship application.
Please note that until you have applied for admission to the University of Edinburgh, you will not be able to access the online application form.
The online scholarship application form may be found in EUCLID and accessed through the web-based information portal MyEd.
