Civic Spring Fellowship National Program

The Civic Spring Fellowship National program gives youth-led groups from throughout the country the chance to lead a community project this summer.

Young people are developing skills to continue participating and making a significant change in the community as Civic Spring Fellows by concentrating on community projects.

Grants

  • Youth-led initiatives addressing a local need relating to environmental justice, mental health, the 2022 elections, or COVID-19 may seek up to $25,000 in funding.

Requirements for the Civic Spring Fellowship National Program

Youth-driven and/or youth-focused groups or organizational partnerships are eligible to apply for the National Program. A 501(c)3 nonprofit must be the lead applicant.

Applicants must fit into one of the following categories:

  • An organization that is led by young people;
  • An organization that works in close collaboration with a youth-led group;
  • A community-based organization that is working with young people to finish the CSF project proposal and has specific plans to include youth in project management and leadership;
  • A national organization submitting an application in collaboration with a local youth-led organization or group that will lead the project in their neighborhood; a collaboration of local groups that can assist a youth-driven initiative.

Expectation

Fellowship for Civic Spring CSF National Fellows will be selected from a pool of 8-12 young people (plus 2-3 adult practitioners if suitable) by national applicants. Youth Fellows who complete the 10-week fellowship – including satisfying the standards listed below – will be accepted to the Civic Spring National Network, which includes CSF fellows as well as civic leaders, practitioners, and others from throughout the nation-leading and working in civic spaces.

The following is a list of what fellow organizations are required to do:

  • Focus on young people as project ideas, proposals, and executive leaders.
  • Young people should be compensated for their time.

Fellows are required to do the following:

  • Assist with and/or finish the project proposal
  • Participate in the Civic Spring Fellowship Launch in 2022. (week of June 6)
  • At least eight out of ten weekly 75-minute sessions must be attended (virtual)
  • Keep track of your hours and progress with a time journal.
  • Assisting with and/or completing the final report
  • Report on progress and evaluation of the project (1 per Fellow)

Funding report

Complete project-related questionnaires on a regular basis (quarterly for years 1-2, and annually for years 3-5)

The following is what fellows and fellow organizations may expect:

  • Improved knowledge of how to identify and respond to community needs
    Increased civic awareness, abilities, and attitudes
  • Participation in a developing nationwide network of young people who work in public places
  • Strategies for including individuals with a variety of viewpoints, beliefs, and life experiences, for example.
  • In your town and beyond, connections to changemakers, leaders, community members, professionals, and organizations
