The BBC World News Komla Dumor Award will be given to an extraordinary African person who combines great journalistic abilities, on-air flair, and an uncommon aptitude for conveying African stories with the drive and potential to become a future star.

Worth of Award

  • The winner’s airfare to and from the UK, as well as their visa, will be paid for by the BBC.
  • We’ll also organize and pay for the winner’s lodging in London while they’re on placement.
  • The recipient will get £2,000 per month to cover their living costs during the three-month internship, as well as a one-off payment of £5,000 to help offset the loss of earnings in their home country.

Requirements for the BBC World News Komla Dumor Award

  • To be considered for this prestigious prize, you must presently reside in Africa and work as a journalist.
  • You’ll also need the following qualifications and experience:
  • Excellent talents in journalism, especially digital and social media.
  • Experience in broadcasting is preferred.
  • A superb broadcasting voice and strong presenting abilities, as well as the ability to act with panache at the microphone.
  • Ability to identify and propose a compelling original African story concept in accordance with BBC editorial criteria (http://www.bbc.co.uk/editorialguidelines/).
    Knowledge and comprehension of the African continent, encompassing politics, business, culture, history, and sport, is broad and current.
  • English as first or similar language fluency.

How to Apply for the BBC World News Komla Dumor Award

You have to:

  • Please submit a CV (no more than two pages) or complete a jobs hub profile.
  • Have a valid passport or be able to get one.
  • You must not be a current or past BBC employee.

Similarly,

  • If you are selected, your employer must agree to release you for three months in September 2022 so that you may travel to London on your own.
  • You must have a degree or be studying for a degree comparable to a UK Bachelor’s degree from a recognized institution to qualify for the visa.
  • Shortlisted applicants will be needed to provide references, evidence of work, birth certificates, passports, a suitable UK visa, and proof of English proficiency.
