The Africa Prize invites ambitious and skilled Sub-Saharan African engineers of all disciplines to use their abilities to find scalable solutions to local problems, emphasizing the relevance of engineering as a driver of a better quality of life and economic growth. A six-month term of training and coaching is provided to a selection of inventive candidates in order to help them commercialize their ideas.

The Africa Prize for Engineering Innovation is a competition that seeks to encourage and recognize engineering entrepreneurship in Sub-Saharan Africa. The Africa Prize invites ambitious and skilled engineering innovators from all disciplines in Sub-Saharan Africa to use their abilities to find scalable solutions to local difficulties, emphasizing the relevance of engineering as a driver of a better quality of life and economic growth.

The purpose of the Africa Prize for Engineering Innovation is to:

  • Encourage the commercialization of engineering breakthroughs that have a beneficial influence on the region’s social and economic development.
    Inspire and inspire young people in Africa and the United Kingdom to pursue careers in engineering.
  • Raise engineering and innovation’s prominence in Africa.
  • To a worldwide audience ranging from schoolchildren to officials, emphasize the significance of engineering in addressing development concerns.
  • Bringing together partners from the UK and Africa’s business and innovation communities to foster a more open discourse on African and global engineering concerns.

Worth of Award

  • The customized training and coaching culminate in a showcase event at which a winner is chosen and awarded £25,000.
  • Each of the three runners-up will get a $10,000 prize.

Africa Prize for Engineering Innovation | Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must have created a novel technical invention or be in the process of doing so. Applicants must have the desire to play a key role in the development of a new firm to commercialize this idea.
Innovations must include the following features:

• seek to improve the well-being and economic growth of a nation or countries in Sub-Saharan Africa

Can be tailored to meet a particular development requirement or difficulty that the nation is experiencing.

For the purposes of the program, the term “sub-Saharan Africa” refers to all nations in Central, East, Southern, and Western Africa as defined by the African Union. These are:

Central Africa Republic, Chad, Comoros, Republic of the Congo, Democratic Republic

How to Apply for the Africa Prize for Engineering Innovation

All proposals must be submitted electronically using the Raeng Grant Management System (GMS), which may be found at https://grants.raeng.org.uk.
