Women storytellers are asked to apply for the Africa No Filter Media Grant 2022.

In the media, women’s voices are still underrepresented. To assist narrow this gap, Africa No Filter’s newest Media Grants are targeted solely at female storytellers and women-owned media organizations and channels.

This funding opportunity aims to enhance the number of African female storytellers and content makers, as well as provide a platform for perspectives that have been historically misunderstood and underrepresented on the continent.

All candidates should have a track record of developing work that uses inventive, creative, and captivating storytelling to challenge stereotyped African narratives. They should also take part in at least one of the following activities:

  • Creating new narratives about and within the continent by disrupting and addressing harmful and stereotyped stereotypes.
  • Female journalists or content creators are being trained and their ability is being built.
  • Increasing the continent’s creativity and innovation
  • Data-driven insights and analysis are being used to shed light on the continent’s transitions.
  • Using pop culture as a vehicle for effective storytelling

Grant

Project Support grants of up to $10,000 are available to journalists, bloggers, vloggers, content creators, and podcasters, while Operational Support and Capacity-Building grants of up to $25,000 are available to organizations.

Africa No Filter Media Grant | Eligibility Criteria

For Organisations

  • Based in Africa and headed by a woman;
  • Have been in business for at least a year;
  • Have worked with African female storytellers and content makers in the past;
  • The proposed initiative should aim to increase the number of tales and stories that reflect a more varied and vibrant continent.

For Individuals

  • A woman from Africa, either on the continent or in the diaspora.
  • For more than a year, you must have created material and stories that represent a more varied and vibrant continent;
  • The proposed initiative should aim to increase the number of tales and stories that reflect a more varied and vibrant continent.
