Africa Fact Checking Fellowship 2022 for Northern Regions in Cameroon
The Africa Fact Checking Fellowship 2022 for Cameroon’s Northern Regions is now accepting applications. For the last two years, the Africa fact-checking fellowship has been conducted by the #defyhatenow Cameroon project.
Professionals from the South West, North West, Littoral, Centre, North, Far North, and West have been trained in five cohorts. The fellowship also benefited about 20 members of the Cameroon Bloggers Association from Douala, Yaoundé, and Dschang.
The #AFFCameroon initiative has educated more than 53 online fact-checking and hate speech detection specialists, with technical help from ADISI-Cameroon through its sub-structure. The quarterly fellowship was organized with the goal of teaching advanced fact-checking skills in partnership with a number of influential people and international organizations.
About the Fellowship
The fellowship is aimed to continue the work of the alumni fellows and expand on their achievements. #FactsMatter237 was created with the goal of tracking and mapping viral social media trends connected to Cameroon’s significant thematic concerns, as well as training trainers. While #AFFCameroon aspires to encourage seasoned professionals through its numerous cohorts.
The fellowship intends to educate African journalists, bloggers, and content creators on fact-checking, data journalism, and digital rights. Fellows will leave the three-month program with the knowledge and resources they need to handle the present issues of false news in their areas of operation.
The curriculum employs a blended learning approach that includes webinars, practical lectures, peer-to-peer learning, and hands-on fieldwork.
